Today, I´m going to recommend all teachers and students involved in project DigiSkills to use Screencast-o-matic. This Web 2.0 tool lets everybody quickly create and host screencasts. Screencast-o-matic runs a Java applet and works well with mac, linux and windows machines. Additonally, I like the possibility to export each screencast to Quicktime.

He showed the participants how to find ways to create an electronic partnership between schools and to work on the eTwinning platform TwinSpace. Great results with Typo3!

ETutor Achim Schaller from grade 10 did a good job to give his Html-advices to his classmates as to develope a Typo3 website. And please remember, he teamed up with some students abroad in our former Comenius and eTwinning meetings in Regenstauf and Patras.
Well, it took about 6 lessons in our ICT-course until the students of Regenstauf could present their own websites. Pretty good results!!!

European Springday 2007 rocks!

Each year, the European Commission asks all schools in Europe to take part in a Springday Event in order to show our unity. Realschule Regenstauf (GER) organised an event "Unity in Diversity". Special guest was our eTwinning partner from Häggvallskolan (Tjörn), Sweden: 37 students and 4 teachers had been present. Dancing, singing ... the party was a big success!

Workshop in Patras - Greece

Michael Lux and Achim Schaller from Realschule Regenstauf held a little workshop about HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) - two web programming languages - in Patras/Greece. We created a simple website with six pupils from the 20th School in Patras. We couldn´t finish this action because we had no time left.
Pupils which were interested will get an eMail with some useful links regarding HTML and CSS, so that they can finish their website by themselves.

European Quality Label

In the first round, the CSS gave this award to 76 schools. Congratulations to PTS Maasmechelen and Realschule Regenstauf!
Brussels wrote: "This unique label denotes that the work of teachers, students and schools has been recognised at the highest European level. These teachers and their projects become exemplars to others in regards to what is possible to achieve within the eTwinning Action."

Today, we asked our students from the 2nd class (13 years) to write some lines about themselves. It was during the French lesson, so it should be done in French, of course.
Afterwards they should type it in our Dokeos-platform and add a picture. The students were very motivated and they did a very fine job !!! The results are available in the DigiCourse "Se présenter réciproqement" and pictures are available in the Photo-album.

Six young persons from University of Regensburg - Faculty of Geography - are attending their practical training at Realschule Regenstauf.
Hans Feldmeier cares about all students and is showing them digital teaching methods likes blogs, wikis and webquests. Each of the students prepared lessons in grade 8 and grade 9. Additionally, all students constructed webquests regarding several subjects.

Blog 'Like Water for chocolate'

I produced with my Spanish class a blog on a novel we read in class. It's called 'Like Water for chcolate' (Como agua para chocolate) by the Mexican writer Laura Esquivel. It's a novel that is divided into 12 chapter with a Mexican recipe at the beginning of each chapter. Each student gave a presentation in which he/she talked about one chapter. Then they put their summary on our blog. Finally we watched the film by Alfonso Arau. They enjoyed it. Me, too.

European eTwinning Workshops

At the EU- eTwinning platform you can read: "These workshops are aimed at teachers who want to learn more about eTwinning and develop their skills in European collaboration using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The workshops bring together participants from different European countries to network and share experiences." Students working on Typo3

Two students of Realschule Regenstauf- Achim Schaller and Michael Lux - are working on Typo3 with their classmates. Both are teaching as Tutors within an ICT-course of Hans Feldmeier.

Workshop for e-DigiSkills students

Three students from Brioude (France), two students from Thessaloniki (Greece) and two students from Tjörn (Sweden) have been working to create free websites based on Joomla. Achim Schaller and Michael Lux (students from Regenstauf/Germany) prepared a course for our eTwinning partners during the Comenius/eTwinning meeting from 10th-15th October 2006 in Regenstauf. This successful action must go on in Patras/Greece next January!

Pageflakes - Personalized Start Page

Pageflakes is a Ajax based free start page like Webwag and Netvibes. You can add and delete what you don´t like. There are a lot of standard modules, "flakes", that allow you to read news and blogs, do web searches, create a to-do-list and so on. Everybody is able to add many flakes and feeds. All modules can be dragged to a place on your screen of your choice. Generally, nobody is forced to register. But if you want to save your settings, you should do so. Pageflakes is part of the social network, because you can share your start page with friends, teachers even students or make it public.

Students of form 10 were asked to create webquests about a topic in social studies: One of the topics was "political structures in Germany". One group with teamleader Tobias Schmidbauer created a website "Politische Strukturen Deutschlands". Other groups created powerpoint presentations. Etwinning tests for students

Most eTwinning partners followed the Robert Conings` suggestion from Maasmechelen to create tests on the platform DOKEOS. The topics are free, they can be about literature, architecture, European regions, history or other interesting matters. To create tests by students is another possibility of learning in electronic environments.

Wikispace is a good tool for a community, a kind of group website. It could be a website to which the entire Etwinning DigiSkills Community can contribute. Wikispace is easy to use for teachers and students. A wikispace of our eTwinning group could be a suitable place for students and teachers to give an insight into their work. I would like you to use another interesting tool: MagazineFactory. MagazineFactory is an open source and is a popular device to develop web magazines. MagazineFactory is an easy and enjoyable publishing tool, which provides the teachers and the pupils an opportunity to work as editorial staff (also in class) and to publish a web magazine of their own. There is one editor-in-chief, which is me. Teachers are editors, while the pupils are journalists, who cannot publish without the permission of their editor.
I have created DigiSkills eZine, which deals with our eTwinning project. Each teacher of the DigiSkills schools will be asked to register as an editor. Please let me know about your interests. Thus each school could publish articles on any topic tey choose. Nevertheless, we should focus on a common product (topic) in English. We will discuss this during our next Comenius/eTwinning project meeting (10-15.10.06 in Regenstauf).

Patras - Cultural capital of Europe

Our town is the Cultural Capital of Europe for the year 2006. One of the most interesting exhibitions took place in Patras, that of Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterpieces in construction.
Our school had the chance to admire the exhibits and wonder at the genius of this great artist, architect, mechanic, engineer and universal scientist. We were able to learn about the ingenuity of this man, his ability to foresee the future and how well advanced was he in his discoveries. Here are some examples of his best works:

Etwinning DigiSkills podcast

To involve teachers and students via podcasts turned out to be of advantage in lessons, e.g. in oral testing. There are a lot of educational podcasts alive! Etwinning DigiSkills project has got its own podcast .
Thus, our students should download a podcatcher like iTunes. If students subcribe to a podcast with iTunes, they will be able to get to know all updates like videos or audio files. And all students can do a homework creating audio files about a special subject. That´s another method of teaching. Students from all eTwinning DigiSkills partners could do a podcast project together, for example. I´m sure, students will enjoy it.

Some groups constructed their webquests by means of websites. Other students from Regenstauf preferred creating a powerpoint presentation (watch pdf)
